Willoughby City Council - Nature Strips and Loving Your Trees
It’s not often that a sign breaks through the busyness of life and makes you stop, read it, and do something.
It’s not often that a sign breaks through the busyness of life and makes you stop, read it, and do something. The battle for our attention and engagement is all around us, online and offline.
This image popped up on my LinkedIn feed a few days ago (link). Wow!
Admittedly, I am slightly biased because my much-loved street tree is also a Lopcon and I recognised that bark. Nevertheless, it is eye-catching, provides useful and interesting information, and is inviting to a wide and diverse audience.
So I shared the post and wanted to know more.
Are they available for anyone, or any group?
Thanks to Dr Jenni Garden from Edge Impact for responding.
Here’s what Dr Jenni says:
Great to see a photo of these Tree Tags, which were the latest addition to Edge’s family of Tree Tags across Australia!
Available to anyone!
We can offer full service Tree Tags (where we measure your selected trees for you, run the modeling, convert the outputs to the relatable metrics shown on the Tree Tags, design with you the appearance of the Tags, print, fill in, deliver and even hang the Tags)….or any individual or combination of those tasks - e.g. if you already have suitable data available we wouldn’t need to measure trees, or if you wanted to design and print and hang your own Tags, that’s fine too we can just provide you with modeled output!
We can also provide training to enable you to upskill and be able to do your own tree measuring and/or modeling!
We also can do Tree Tags as an interactive tree trail, as we did for Willoughby Council
So many options to suit all price points! Obviously the scope of the project and the number of trees you’d like to include will influence the cost!
Drop me an email and I’m more than happy to organise a time to chat and customize a project with you!
That’s certainly given me something to think about for 2025. Can you see something like this working for your group, organisation, or council?

This is the link that the QR code on the tree tag in the photo leads to: https://www.willoughby.nsw.gov.au/Campaigns/Love-Your-Trees
That’s where you’ll find more about their Love Your Trees program and the tree trail.
While I was there, I checked to see if Willoughby has a policy for verge gardens. Yes! See the Nature strip maintenance and planting link on this page. Permits are required. Make sure you have read and understand the Vegetation Management Guidelines.
I love it. Might be helpful in areas struggling with traction on street trees. Gap sustainability group? Maybe ACF Northside can get behind these tags in a targeted way. I’m not sure about the math of 565 days per year of cooling? 😜
Tree name tags. I like it and I like the initiative of enhancing the value of trees. In a way it’s a bit sad that trees need this boost to their PR.
