TREENET Gold Leaf Awards
I was in good company as one of the three people recognised in the 2025 TREENET Gold Leaf Awards.
As another summer looms, the focus on urban greening and the need for more street trees for shade gets increasingly urgent. This is not a simple problem with one single answer. We need many complementary and collaborative approaches, where we are working together across different sectors and disciplines.
I was delighted to be in such good company as one of the three people recognised in the 2025 TREENET Gold Leaf Awards. Our very different backgrounds mean that we bring a diverse range of skills and networks to the common purpose of creating cooler, greener cities where people and nature can thrive.
I couldn’t get to Adelaide this year so Lyndal Plant, Chair of TREENET, brought the award to one of the monthly verge visits run by the local ACF Community group. These are part of their group project to raise community awareness of biodiversity and the need to protect it.

This award is an important step in strengthening the connections between the urban forest professions and the community to cool and green our cities.
If you are in Brisbane, you can catch up with me on the Shady Lanes stall at the Wendon Way Anniversary Celebration next Sunday (21st September 2025).
I’ll also be at the next TREENET Symposium in Adelaide in September 2026.
