New Year - New Website
We've been busy over the break with a complete rebuild of the Shady Lane Project website. Here's what's changed and why.
Websites evolve like gardens and the shadylanes.com.au website was overdue for some pruning and reshaping to reflect the developments of the past few years. It was also a great opportunity to move to new website software for today’s internet - goodbye Wordpress.
New Events Page
There is a new events page where I’ll list local, national, and online conferences, booktalks and other events. It’s always great to meet people face-to-face.
This is the first one:
On Wednesday 28 January 2026, 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm AEDT, I’ll be doing an Author talk with Laura Aston from Wayfinder Labs. Online. All welcome. Laura brings a transport background to the conversation but there will be many other perspectives.
This follows our discussion in November: How can a verge become the spark that connects people, nature, and councils? Regenerative Streets Podcast, Wayfinder Labs, 30 November 2025.
Changes to the Directory
Using this Substack for the newsletter and discussion, and encouraging groups to have their own Substacks, has simplified the directory on the shadylanes.com.au website.
The URL paths (the webpage address) for the council policy pages have changed so if you link direct to those, you’ll need to update your links. The search engines will index the new pages and change their links over the next few weeks.
The listings of council verge garden policies and group projects are now in the Resources section. If your council policy is missing or has changed, please contact me or comment below, and I’ll update the listing.
Tidying Up
Now the website is in the tidy-up phase. If you spot problems like typos, formatting issues, broken links, please let me know - email, message or comment below.
Technology should always support our activities and aspirations, not drive or limit it. The new website is part of the preparation for an exciting and productive 2026.

The new website looks great.
